Musician. Producer. Education innovator. Originally from Blue Ash, Ohio, three time GRAMMY® Foundation nominee, and 2015 top ten finalist, for the GRAMMY® Foundation’s Music Educator Of The Year award, Richard Maxwell’s musical journey has been anything but ordinary. Originally hired to conduct the school’s bands and orchestras – eventually creating, in those first nine years, the district’s 1st year round, full symphony program - Maxwell developed and now facilitates the Arcadia High School (Phoenix, AZ) Creative Musical Arts and Sciences (CMAS – www.ArcadiaCMAS.com) program – considered a model for creativity-based music programs across the US.
Along with countless performances over the years, spanning a range of styles, as a drummer and solo artist, Maxwell also received a Masters in Music from The University of Arizona in Conducting, and was the first ever recipient of a Music Composition degree from Bradley University. He was also recognized in 2014 as the Music Educator Mentor of the Year by Arizona State University.
These days, when not working to further his music education “experiment” as he calls it with CMAS, Maxwell continues to consult as an educator, work as a producer in his studio, and is busy exploring his own creative process.
